The Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative (DRRI) is an endeavour promoted by DARA with the aim of contributing to improved risk reduction interventions and responses to disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. The Initiative is based on partnerships with other organisations and experts in the field, and promotes knowledge sharing and dissemination with a specific focus on what works and why.

A draft report to Fritz Institute from Center for Hazards Research and Policy Development University of Louisville -- Based on the current state of practice, this paper examines the issues in measuring disaster preparedness, and the process of constructing indicators and indices. Existing indices are examined, and a proposed framework of creating a Disaster Preparedness Index (DPi), and Resiliency Index (Ri) with a suggested list of measurement indicators is put forward. The framework and indicator list is unweighted, and as with any existing index, the weighting of the components are a subjective process, and are adjusted based on expert panel review or iterative on-ground application and review.
